STEM Education For
Empowerment Project (STEEP)
The STEM Education for Empowerment Project (STEEP) is a four-year $4 million initiative funded by the Government of Canada through Global Affairs Canada (GAC) and The Barrett Family Foundation (BFF). The Humber Polytechnic leads the project under the project management of the International Development Institute (IDI) and supported by implementing partners CAP Youth Empowerment Institute in Kenya, and HahuJobs in Ethiopia.
STEEP will provide vital training and support to equip girls from low-income and vulnerable communities in Kenya and Ethiopia with the interest, skills, and confidence to pursue studies and/or employment in STEM. STEEP will enhance gender equality and empowerment of adolescent girls between 14-18 years, a critical life stage when interest and STEM enrollment rates drop.
In Ethiopia, STEEP started implementation since October 2024, with a target of reaching 15,000 adolescent girls from low- and middle-income countries. HaHuJobs, which specializes in connecting people with jobs, will use its employment center and selected partner high schools to engage both in-school and out-of-school girls in Addis Ababa.
OUR OBJECTIVES
To enhance gender equality and empowerment of adolescent girls between 14-18 years old from low-income and vulnerable communities in Kenya and Ethiopia by equipping them with the interest, skills, and confidence to pursue studies and/or employment in STEM.
